Developing Effective Leadership in Black Communities: A Focus on Parents, Pastors and Politicians: by Dr. Allen Berry
This book is an in depth analysis on primary leadership and organizations that are key to developing effective Black and minority leaders in vulnerable, underserved and at risk communities. Primary leaders that have a significant influence on leadership development consist of parents, pastors, and politicians. These leaders function by providing guidance and exert significant influence whether it is positive or negative over the direction of individuals, families, and communities.
The book does deep analysis on the primary institutions of family, religious organizations, and government and civic entities. These entities serve as growth mediums and determine the long term trajectory and sustainability of individuals, families, communities, and nations. The book seeks to provide strategies to promote growth and a future orientation promoting leadership growth and development for Black and minority communities. This manuscript does not shy away from debunking fallacies, errors, and false narratives that lead to stagnation, regression, and repetitive failure. The book examines the challenges faced by parents , pastors, and politicians and is not afraid to confront the errors and misinformation of the status quo.

"As an educator with over thirty years of experience in the public and private community, this book answers and clarifies many of the challenges that exist in inner city and urban communities. It not only states the problem but addresses strategies to address them. This book is a must read for leaders in urban communities."

"This manuscript is a very insightful and inspiring resource that has good insights into strategies that enhance the effectiveness of parents, spiritual, and civic leaders in fostering mental, emotional, and practical growth within the community. I appreciated the solid, professional approach undertaken to equip parents, pastors, and political leaders to synergistically develop leaders in the Black community. This is not just a generalized theoretical approach, but Allen offers relevant practical solutions to specific issues that promote crime reduction, decrease out-of-wedlock births, and lower truancy and juvenile delinquency rates. The emphasis on unity and working together across political and religious lines makes this an especially applicable approach in todays’ oft-divided societies. Not only does Allen provide good recommendations, but he proposes solid metrics with which to measure results and continually improve this strategy. Overall, I think this is an excellent resource that has the potential to make a significant difference, especially in young leaders and in those who are focused on leading innovative youth development in this community."
